To meet the needs of Korean construction companies and customers, Hyundai Steel has obtained the Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) certification, a Korean accreditation, for its hot-rolled and thick-plate products.
This comes after Hyundai Steel’s acquisition of a Swedish-issued international EPD certification for its plate products (hot-rolled, cold-rolled, plated, thick-plate). With the acquisition of the new certification, Hyundai Steel is now able to meet the needs of Korean customers seeking green construction certifications such as G-SEED.
For EPD-certified products and services, all environmental impacts resulting from the material sourcing, production, transport/distribution, use, and disposal of the product or service, including emissions and water use, are disclosed to the consumer in quantified figures to allow the consumer to make an informed selection of environmentally-friendly products/services.
As part of its commitment to environmentalism, Hyundai Steel has already obtained EPD certification in the US and Europe, two major steel-consuming regions, and EPD certification for 16 of its products, ranging from plate products to construction materials, in the domestic market as part of its efforts to build of portfolio of EPD-certified products for domestic and international customers.
Hyundai Steel previously announced its 2050 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap as part of its concentrated efforts to become a sustainable and environmentally-friendly steelmaker. To meet its target of replacing all of its products with carbon-reduced products by 2025, Hyundai Steel is developing an integrated electric arc furnace and blast furnace production system. Hyundai Steel recently launched its low-carbon brand of steel products, HyECOsteel, and is upping its investments in creating an electric arc-blast furnace production system and producing low-carbon, premium steel for cars.
