On November 19, Hyundai Steel’s women’s soccer team, the Red Angels, defeated the Gyeongju KHNP Women’s Football Club in the second game of the WK League finals, earning the WK League championship for the 9th straight year.
The Red Angels tied game one of the finals against Gyeongju KHNP 1-1, but managed to defend the WK League championship with an overall score of 2-1 (aggregate score of games one and two).
This year’s win marks the ninth consecutive year that the Red Angels have topped the WK League. After winning the league championship for the first time in 2013, the team has become an unprecedented dynasty by being regular season champions for ten straight years and overall champions for eight consecutive years. In particular, Kim Eun-sook, interim manager of the Red Angels who led the team to victory this year, has gone down in history as the first winning female manager of the WK League, and forward Choi Yu-ri, who scored the winning goal at the championships, was named the MVP.
