Hyundai Steel is set to renovate Blast Furnace 1 at Dangjin Integrated Steelworks.
On December 9, at the Pohang headquarters of POSCO Chemical, Hyundai Steel President & CEO An Tong-il and POSCO Chemical CEO Min Kyung-zoon oversaw the signing of the two companies’ “Refractory Business Agreement for the Dangjin Steelworks Blast Furnace Renovation.”
The agreement details future collaboration between the two companies for the supply and removal of refractory materials as part of the renovation of Blast Furnace 1 at Hyundai Steel’s Dangjin Integrated Steelworks which opened in January 2010.
Hyundai Steel has chosen POSCO Chemical as its partner for the many refractory-related projects that the chemical manufacturer has performed in the global market, including projects for the POSCO steel mill in Pohang and Gwangyang, Korea.
“POSCO Chemical’s leading expertise stems from the over 20 blast furnace renovations it has successfully performed. POSCO Chemical also has the full gamut of technologies and equipment required for blast furnace renovations,” said a Hyundai Steel official. “We expect that the partnership between Hyundai Steel and the POSCO Group will grow stronger as a result of this project.”
Meanwhile, when the POSCO steel mill in Pohang was afflicted by the flooding of Nangcheon Stream in September, Hyundai Steel provided five of its torpedo ladle cars to support emergency relief.
