The staff at Pohang Works are devoting their energies to helping the plant recover from flood damage caused by Typhoon Hinnamnor.
Recently, on September 6, the Pohang area was hit by typhoon no. 11, Hinnamnor, which brought with it a record heavy rainfall of 400 mm.
Pohang Works suffered damage from the heavy rain, which flooded areas of Plant 1 and Plant 3.
Pohang employees are now working to restore the factory and have even given up their Chuseok holidays to minimize the impact of production disruptions on the supply of goods to customers.
Restoration of the flooded facilities is currently underway, with the goal of completing restoration and resuming production in early October.
Meanwhile, some of the lines that were damaged by flooding, such as the heavy machinery line, are starting normal shipments, making up for production delays through outsourcing.
For products such as section steel and rebars, the plant plans to minimize customer inconvenience by using previously stocked inventory and by providing alternative supply from Incheon Works and Dangjin Integrated Steelworks.
“By putting the customer first and foremost, the staff at Pohang Works are doing their best to restore facilities and normal operations,” stated a Hyundai Steel spokesperson. “Now is the time when we need support and encouragement from the entire company.”
