Hyundai Steel Participates in Common Steel Electric Furnace Seminar 2020

On October 14, Hyundai Steel participated in the Common Steel Electric Furnace Seminar 2020, held by the General Electric Furnace Association of the Korea Iron & Steel Association.

With the theme of “Sustainable Future, Green New Deal & Electric Furnace,” the seminar was held online, given the COVID-19 situation, and was attended by about 100 participants, which included representatives from major electric furnace steel manufacturers, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Iron & Steel Association and the press.

The seminar aimed to explore ways to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and help the electric furnace industry move into the future. A number of presentations and discussions were held on ways to develop the Korean electric furnace industry and strengthen its eco-friendliness and competitiveness. Ahn Tong-il, the chairman of the General Electric Furnace Association, said in his opening address, “The core of Green New Deal policies is to form a ‘low-carbon and resource-circulation economy’ in which humans and nature can coexist, which is an area that is closely related to the electric furnace industry.” Chairman Ahn added, “I hope this seminar will provide a meaningful chance for us to re-examine the eco-friendliness and competitiveness of the electric furnace industry, and proactively suggest directions for the industry to move forward in active correspondence with the government’s Green New Deal policies, while exploring new opportunities for advancement.”
