Hyundai Steel and the city of Dangjin have partnered to make the upcoming events of the 200th anniversary of the birth of priest Andrew Kim Taegon and the 72nd Chungnam Sports Festival carbon neutral. In an August 11 ceremony, Hyundai Steel, Dangjin, and Lloyd’s Register signed an agreement to cooperate in organizing what will be the first carbon-neutral event in Korea.
The essence of a carbon neutral event lies in calculating greenhouse gas emissions from the cars and energy sources used in its execution, and offsetting them to net-zero as per the Verified Carbon Standard. A Hyundai Steel official commented, ”It’s very rewarding to be able to use the company’s voluntary carbon credits to realize ESG value in the local community.”
※ Verified Carbon Standard (VCS): A standard for certifying carbon emissions reductions widely used as a measure of carbon reduction in business activities and large events
