On July 7, Hyundai Steel donated USD 78,000 to the Purme Foundation, following the successful completion of the “70 cm Miracle, Moonshot Challenge,” held in celebration of the company’s 70th anniversary.
The “70 cm Miracle, Moonshot Challenge” was a step donation campaign, carried out by Hyundai Steel employees, that was based on the idea that 500 million steps (with an average human step measuring 70 cm) equals 380,000 km, which is equivalent to the distance it takes to travel from the Earth to the Moon. The campaign lasted for 22 days, from May 20 to June 10, the anniversary of the company’s foundation.
Participants of the step donation campaign achieved a total of 526 million steps, surpassing the campaign’s original goal and raising USD 78,000 for the donation. The money raised will be used to support projects that provide customized assistive devices to children with disabilities.
Last year, Hyundai Steel donated USD 39,000, raised through the employee step donation campaign, “Step More, Care More,” and raised another USD 70,000 for charity through a project designed to enhance the daily lives of people with disabilities. A variety of social contribution projects are being held in celebration of the company’s 70 anniversary, including the employee step donation campaign, dispatch of volunteer groups to Chennai, India, and the H-Atelier project which saw the installation of metal sculptures in Songdo, Incheon.
