Hyundai Steel’s Ulsan Works 2 plant has successfully obtained DNV certification for offshore wind turbines in renewable energy after undergoing a suitability assessment of its production and quality management systems.
DNV (Det Norske Veritas) is the world’s largest certification body specializing in the energy sector, and attaining this certification gives Hyundai Steel a competitive edge in the offshore wind steel pipe market, while bolstering its reputation for quality. As the sole Korean steel pipe manufacturer to acquire this certification, the company will encounter lower entry barriers in the future, as a separate pre-assessment will not be required when domestic or international offshore wind energy clients request certification.
Recently, Hyundai Steel supplied approximately 12,000 tons of steel pipes for the substructures of the Jeju Hallim offshore wind project, currently being conducted by Hyundai Engineering & Construction. Hyundai Steel has also provided 1,700 tons of high-strength, large-diameter steel pipes with a yield strength of 690 Mpa for the fabrication of jack-up legs for the Hyundai Frontier, Hyundai Engineering & Steel Industries’ dedicated offshore wind installation vessel.
Furthermore, Hyundai Steel is currently in the process of supplying approximately 8,000 tons of steel pipes for the substructures of Taiwan Power Company’s (TPC) Phase 2 offshore wind power project. These are being sequentially provided to Century Wind Power in Taiwan. Hyundai Steel plans to continue to supply steel pipes for additional projects in the future.
