Hyundai Steel became the first steelmaker in Korea to received international certification for a low-carbon process and product.
Hyundai Steel recently received global public certificates from DNV Maritime in Norway for its low-carbon process and product.
This certification is significant in that the effect of the reduced carbon plan has been recognized by an external organization that’s widely trusted by the public, rather than the company’s own declaration of its carbon reduction measures.
Hyundai Steel conducted a pre-certification procedure for its plan to implement a reduced carbon process and carbon footprint (CFP) for low-carbon products. It also received low-carbon process certification for its “electric production plan for metal sheet” and low-carbon product certification for its special steel wire.
The company was not only recognized for its mass-produced products, but also for its plan to implement a low-carbon process, once again confirming the feasibility of its “Hy-Cube” carbon neutral strategy.
DNV provides certification for reduced carbon rolled steel produced by global steel companies, including ThyssenKrupp from Germany and Kobe Steel from Japan, and is one of the most authoritative organizations in the carbon field.
Hyundai Steel conducted a third-party certification evaluation, to confirm the validity of its carbon emission record and carbon emission calculation method, through DNV’s Korean branch.
“With this certification, we have secured trust in our plan for a reduced-carbon process in our medium to long-term carbon neutrality road map. This will allow us to preemptively respond to the needs of global clients for reduced-carbon products,” said a Hyundai Steel spokesperson.
