The MOU outlines that the signatories will share information and collaborate on joint R&D efforts to develop environmentally friendly expressways, utilize by-products from the steel industry, and establish eco-friendly construction policies and standards.

The Korea Expressway Corporation will work on revising road pavement standards to promote the use of steel industry by-products in roadworks. The Korean Recycled Construction Resources Institute will collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to drive systemic improvements that align with the MOU’s technology goals, while Hyundai Steel and POSCO will ensure the quality and improvement of steel industry by-products.

“Green construction is no longer a choice, but a necessity,” said Cho Nam-min, head of the Korea Expressway Corporation Research Institute. “Our institute will actively cooperate with research entities and the private sector to develop sustainable technologies for expressway construction.”
