Corporate History Book Published in Celebration of Hyundai Steel’s 70th Anniversary

This year, Hyundai Steel’s 70-Year History, a comprehensive chronicle of the company’s history, was published in honor of Hyundai Steel’s 70th anniversary.

Hyundai Steel, originally named the Korea Heavy Industry Corporation, was founded in 1953 as the first steel company in Korea. In its early years, the company played a critical role in reconstructing the national economy following the devastation of the Korean War. In 1978, the steelmaker became a part of the Hyundai Group and then in 2000 was integrated into the Hyundai Motor Group, growing throughout these transitions into a global steel company.

In 2004, Hyundai Steel acquired Hanbo Steel, which had been a catalyst to the IMF financial crisis. With this acquisition, the company successfully completed the construction of its integrated steelworks, contributing to the stability and growth of the national economy.

The recently published Hyundai Steel 70th anniversary book comprehensively summarizes the history of Hyundai Steel, as it grew and developed, intertwined with the contemporary history of Korea. The publication includes a wide range of information, such as the company’s current business metrics and vision, financial statements from the past 70 years, and information on production trends and more, enhancing the book’s significance as a valuable historical record.

Hyundai Steel’s 70-Year History is organized into two sections. The “History” section of the book introduces the company’s history and vision through text and data, and the “Photography” section captures significant moments with photographs spanning the 70 years since the company’s founding. Going beyond images documenting the company’s past in Korea, the “Photography” section also offers a wider visual experience by showcasing pictures of Hyundai Steel’s five domestic facilities and overseas subsidiaries located in various parts of the world, including the Americas, Europe, and India.

This anniversary book is available in PDF format on the company’s website (click). Physical copies of the book are scheduled to be distributed to each department of Hyundai Steel beginning in September.
