The WK League’s premier team, the Hyundai Steel Red Angels, has been training in earnest to become the strongest team in all of Asia.
Red Angels players during their off-season training
The Red Angels finalized their player roster and in January began their off-season training in Vietnam to enhance not only team play but also individual skills. The team is focusing on strengthening its organizational cohesion after recruiting a significant number of young players in preparation for the 2024 season.
The Red Angels, not satisfied with their 11 consecutive WK League titles, have embarked on a new quest not only to clinch their 12th straight championship but to win the AFC Asian Cup. To this end, the team has made notable acquisitions, including star forward Choo Hyo-joo (24) from Suwon FC, midfielder Park Ye-eun (28) from Heart of Midlothian FC in Scotland, and striker Seo ji-youn (29), who was a main striker for Gyeongju KHNP. Other key players that have recently joined the team include striker Choi Ji-na (26) from Hwacheon KSPO WFC and central defender Lim Hee-eun (28) from Changnyeong WFC.
In the rookie draft held in December last year, the Red Angels selected promising talents across various positions, including Kim Min-seo (24, Ulsan College), Park A-hyun (24, Daekyeung University), Kang Ye-jin (24, Tongwon University), adding depth to their roster. The international trio of OBUNYU TEREZA ENGESHA (25, Kenya), NREHY TIA VIHO INES (31, Ivory Coast), and Tanaka Yoko (31, Japan) is also expected to greatly contribute to the team’s play in the upcoming season.
Rejuvenated with a younger lineup for the new season, the club is expected to show a cohesive, high-level performance and creative plays that will make full use of the entire field.
This coming May, the Red Angels will face the Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan in the AFC League Championship final to vie for the title of “Best Team in Asia.”
