On December 5, Hyundai Steel opened a metaverse workplace at Dangjin Integrated Steelworks, which employees can virtually tour without spatial or temporal constraints.
The metaverse space was implemented withing the major Korean metaverse platform “ZEP” that allows access for a large number of users. As it operates on a web-based platform, there is no need for separate installations, and all employees can freely connect and explore Dangjin Integrated Steelworks virtually while learning about the streel production process (Direct link: https://zep.us/play/yoR6lA).

When users access the metaverse, they can move their avatars to experience each process. Upon entering the virtual building, they are able to watch a real-life processing video, providing a lifelike on-site experience. They can also gain theoretical knowledge through reading the explanation cards.
In addition, given the extensive layout of Dangjin Integrated Steelworks, a “teleportation tab” has been introduced as a convenient function for touring processes located at a distance away. By clicking on any factory, users can instantly teleport to the corresponding building. To ensure efficient movement, the “riding tab” allows users to navigate around using their preferred mode of transportation, such as cars and bicycles, which adds a fun element to the experience.

In addition, English versions have been added to the explanation cards for each process, allowing overseas corporate employees, who lack opportunities to take part in on-site visits in Korea, a chance to easily comprehend each process. Future plans include extending the English guidance throughout the metaverse platform to enhance the overall convenience for international users.
In the future, Hyundai Steel plans to assess the utility of the Metaverse Dangjin Integrated Steelworks in order to explore the possibility of introducing metaverse spaces to additional Hyundai Steel workplaces.
