Pohang Laboratory Receives Commendation on 2023 World Accreditation Day

On July 19, Hyundai Steel’s Pohang Laboratory received a commendation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy at a ceremony celebrating World Accreditation Day and the 30th anniversary of the launch of the KOLAS accreditation system. Members of laboratory were recognized for their contributions in research and testing, both for steel-based and other products.

The event was organized by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the introduction and implementation of KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme).

KOLAS is a scheme that allows for the standardized, international evaluation of the management systems and technical capabilities of target institutions and is used to officially recognize the competencies of different institutions in their respective fields.

Pohang Laboratory was honored with a group award recognizing the lab’s contributions to enhancing overseas exports and reinforcing the quality and reliability of steel products, through the production of over 2,000 tons of steel. The lab members were also commended for their efforts to reduce Korea’s dependence on imports, as seen by their production and testing of over 90% of all products used throughout the country’s KTX network.

The award ceremony was attended by Jung Won-wook, the leader of the Pohang Electric Arc Furnace Quality Team, along with Baek Sang-jin. Jung Won-wook received the award on the laboratory’s behalf.
