On April 21 at the G-Tower in Songdo International City, Incheon, Hyundai Steel signed an MOU with the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority for the “H Steel Atelier Social Contribution Project.”
The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Kyung-suk, the Head of the Strategy Planning Division at Hyundai Steel, and Kim Jin-yong, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner. Under the MOU, the two signing parties established a cooperative system for the H Steel Atelier project and other activities that contribute to the local economy.
Under the MOU, the two parties agreed to cooperate for the donation and installation of four iron public artworks in Songdo International City’s Central Park; establishment of a cooperative system for realizing artistic values and contributing to the local economy; and support participatory programs for local citizens.
As part of the H Steel Atelier project, Hyundai Steel will install four iron sculptures―three by emerging artists and one by a local artist, who were selected through a competition―in between “Gale Bridge” and “GCF (Green Climate Fund) Bridge” in Songdo Central Park.
The location for the artwork was selected in February 2023, and in March, a competition to select the artworks was held under the themes of “Heritage (hope for a sustainable future), Humanity (respect for human dignity and a people-centered culture), and Harmony (harmony with the surrounding environment).” The final winners were announced on April 24, and the finished artworks will be unveiled at a ceremony in July after the artworks have been completed and installed.
“H-Steel Atelier” is the name of Hyundai Steel’s art and culture social contribution project. Through the project, the company installs sculptures made of iron in public areas near Hyundai Steel worksites, enriching the local community and providing opportunities for young artists to show off their work. In 2018 and 2019, Hyundai Steel installed five sculptures in Samseonsan Arboretum in Dangjin and four sculptures at the Suncheonman Ecological Culture Education Center.
