Red Angels Claim 10th Consecutive WK League Title

The Hyundai Steel Red Angels women’s soccer team defeated Gyeongju KHNP to claim their 10th straight WK League title.

The Red Angels won their match against Gyeongju KHNP (Gyeongju Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power FC) held at Incheon’s Namdong Stadium on November 26 (the deciding game of the 2022 WK League championship), after Lee Min-A and Jung Seol-Bin each scored a goal, for a final score of 2:0.

When the same two teams faced off at Hwangseong Stadium 3 in Gyeongju on November 19, the game ended in a tie with neither team scoring any goals, leaving the Red Angels to clinch the WK League championship with their two goals in the second match.

Having maintained a winning streak in both the regular league and the WK League championships since 2013, the Red Angels’ recent victory marked their 10th consecutive year of the winning the WK League title.

Lee Min-A, who scored the first goal, was named the MVP of the championship match.

The Red Angels’ first goal came just nine minutes into the first half when Lee left a defender in the lurch in the left corner of the penalty box and scored the goal with a turning right kick.

Seven minutes later, Jung Seol-Bin broke through the opposition’s defense and, receiving a well-directed pass from the rear, drove the second goal past the goalkeeper and into the net, maintaining composure throughout.

Pressed for time, Gyeongju KHNP aggressively pushed forward with their offense, but the Red Angels made more shots on goal until the game eventually ended in their favor.
