Dangjin Steelworks Delivers Chuseok Gifts to Low-Income Families and Welfare Facilities

Dangjin Integrated Steelworks delivered gifts and gift certificates to local residents on September 5 and 6 in celebration of Chuseok.

During the sharing activity, held in celebration of the Chuseok holiday, employees from the Steelworks prepared and delivered gift sets and gift certificates to low-income households and local welfare facilities.

On September 5, the company delivered 400 gift boxes in the form of a drive-thru at Hanaro Mart in Songak-eup. On September 6, a ceremony was held to provide gift certificates to welfare facilities.

Each gift package consisted of ten items including daily necessities as well as Haenaru rice, Silchi dried laver, and Haenaru glutinous rice, which are specialties of the Dangjin region. Two types of gift certificates were prepared for the giving event—Onnuri gift certificates and Dangjin Sarang gift certificates–both of which can be used in local markets, designed to simultaneously revitalize the traditional market economy.

The gift certificate delivery ceremony held at Mokmin Hall at Dangjin City Hall on September 6 was attended by about ten officials including: Vice President Park Jong-sung of the Blast Furnace Division; Oh Seong-hwan, Mayor of Dangjin; and Wang Hyun-jung, Chairman of the Dangjin City Welfare Foundation.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to provide these small gifts to our underprivileged neighbors and local welfare facilities ahead of the Chuseok holidays,” said Vice President Park Jong-sung at the delivery ceremony. “I wish everyone a happy and meaningful holiday.”

After the ceremony, Dangjin Steelworks employees visited the homes of elderly people living alone and spent time with them. They spent time chatting with the senior citizens over some light refreshments. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had guests visit for the holidays,” said a Mr. Lim, a senior citizen who lives alone. “I’m thankful that they came, and it warmed my heart that they came bearing gifts.”

Dangjin Steelworks started its sharing activities on the 2007 Lunar New Year’s holiday and has been conducting similar activities every year since.
