In celebration of the 23rd Steel Day, a commemorative event and signing ceremony for the Steel Win-Win Cooperation Fund were held in the Art Hall on the fourth floor of the POSCO Center.
The Steel Day celebration event held by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Steel Association was attended by Vice Minister Jang Young-jin of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Chairman Choi Jeong-woo of the Korea Iron & Steel Association, President & CEO An Tong-il of Hyundai Steel, and more than 150 Steel Day award recipients.
At the event, awards were presented to 32 Steel Day people of merit. Among them four Hyundai Steel employees were honored including Kim Byung-jin, director of the Iron Production Division.
Director Kim Byung-jin received the Presidential Citation in recognition of his contribution to stable steel production and export growth through his patent application for the blast furnace bleeder improvement facility and the technology loyalties agreement.
He was instrumental in developing technology for the production of eco-friendly steel products. To this end, Director Kim not only developed a stave replacement technology for blast furnace cooling, but also secured the technology needed for blast furnace operation and facility recovery. He also contributed to the reduction of greenhouse gas and recycling of waste by using cattle manure in blast furnaces.
Commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy was given to Jee Tae-yun, the head of the Large-Scale Rolling Division (Incheon Works), and Han Kyung-moon, who leads the Electric Furnace Technology Team (Incheon Works).
Jee Tae-yun contributed to facility optimization and early stabilization while overseeing new facility upgrades and the TFT project, and Han Kyung-moon was recognized for achievements in energy saving and in responding to environmental regulations by introducing ECS/low NOx-regenerative burners and special insulation materials with new heating furnace technology.
In addition, Yoo Byung-gil of the Next-Generation Steel Plate Development Team received the Technology Encouragement Award. Yoo was recognized for his contribution to the development and mass production of 1.8 GPa grade ultra-high-strength aluminum-coated cold-rolled steel sheets for the hot stamping of automobile bodies.
