Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore

On October 13, the Hyundai Motor Group held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS) at Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group’s Namyang R&D Center and Jurong Town Hall in western Singapore.

The ceremony, held online due to COVID-19, was attended by distinguished guests that included the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, the Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, Chung Eui-sun and Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Sung Yun-mo.

The event venues in the two countries were connected via video link and the ceremony was broadcast online, given the COVID-19 situation. After the welcoming and congratulatory addresses by the guests, the main attendees touched the buttons on the touch pads at the same time to play a video rendering showing the building that is to be built on the construction site. HMGICS is an open innovation lab that is working toward a new mobility paradigm through studying and demonstrating the value chain across the life cycle of customers’ cars, which includes car ordering, production, test drive, delivery and services. HMGICS will be built at Jurong Innovation District, and should be complete by the end of 2022.
